'This chapter is finally over': Lothar Matthaus completely rules out a Bayern transfer for Timo Werner

German legend and former Bayern Munich player has defended Timo Werner's decision to not join his old team.

In a column for Sky Sports, Lothar Matthaus says on the matter: "The discussion about whether Timo Werner or Leroy Sané would be best suited for Bayern has been going on for quite some time.

"Werner has now decided to publicly distance himself from Bayern. I can understand his reaction. This back and forth is damaging to him and his performances.

"Since he extended his contract in Leipzig and was able to concentrate, he has been outstanding."

The World Cup-winning captain added: "Now he has let it be known that he would be more inclined to move abroad than to Bayern, and I think that means that this chapter is finally over. Otherwise, both parties would lose their credibility."

Werner recently came out and said that he would prefer a challenge to a foreign league rather than moving to Bayern.

His words combined with Matthaus' opinions on the topic make one thing clear - if Werner leaves RB Leipzig, he is going to join another league.

The German international has been heavily linked with the Reds, and we would love to see him at Anfield soon.
