JUST IN: Barca board go against Bartomeu, snap elections on the table
Unexpected news from Catalonia. Josep Maria Bartomeu's reign at Camp Nou might get cut short.
As
Mundo Deportivo report, the current president has lost his credibility
and a big chunk of Barca board members want him to resign. In case he
doesn't, the club would hold snap elections to determine his successor.
The
timeframe of the elections isn't known yet, as the board had an
'informal meeting' so nothing official could've been done. However, the
board will have an extraordinary meeting next week. An official
agreement might be reached then.
The same outlet says that great figures like vice-presidents Emili Rousaud and Jordi Cardoner.
Here is the most important things you need to know about the elections:
- In order to vote, you need to be at least 18 years old and a paying member (socio) at the club and need to be present at the elections, you can't vote online.
- Initially, the elections were set for January 2021 but the shambolic situation at the club might cause a snap election. New elections might actually be held until the end of the season.
- For now, Emili Rousaud, Joan Laporta and Victor Font are seen as the best-placed candidates to land the job.
- Back in 2019, Bartomeu said he won't run for another term.
