Luis Suarez targeting Barcelona comeback as soon as coronavirus suspension ends
Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has revealed that he should be back in action once La Liga returns following the coronavirus pandemic.
The Uruguayan veteran has been missing since early January due to a knee injury which he had to undergo surgery for.
Suarez was expected to be out for around four months, leaving him with just a few games at the end of the season to fight to be fit for.
But following the postponements in football across Europe due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the 33-year-old is hoping he will be back competing by the time football is once again resumed.
“The doctor told me that my recovery was going really well and that gave me hope to play again as soon as I could,” he told Uruguayan newspaper El Observador.
“The difference now is that when the team returns, I will be able to be with them.
“It's not going to change much if the league starts now or three weeks later.
“You have to be sure and confirm that you can go out on the streets without fear of contracting a virus that has already killed a lot of people. That's got to be thought.”
Suarez is yet to play under Quique Setien, who took over from Ernesto Valverde just after Suarez was forced onto the sidelines at the start of the year.
And the player insists that his team-mates are doing well to adapt to life under the Spaniard, with Barca two points ahead of Real Madrid in first place as things stand.
“It's difficult to try to make changes,” Suarez added. “But this Barcelona squad has players capable of adapting to what he asks for.”
