Frank Warren reveals he would make Daniel Dubois vs Anthony Joshua ‘today’ if he could
Frank Warren has admitted he would be confident about putting Daniel Dubois in the ring with heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua ‘today’.
The unbeaten Brit 13-0 (12 KOs) returns to action on Saturday and will take on Japan’s Kyotaro Fujimoto at the Copper Box Arena.
Joshua won back his WBA, IBF and WBO belts , by defeating Andy Ruiz Jr in a rematch in Saudi Arabia earlier this month.
Dubois, the current British and commonwealth holder, has refused to
address rumours he knocked down Joshua when they sparred and his promoter Warren believes ‘Dynamite’ would have the advantage if the pair met.
“If I could make him and Anthony Joshua today, I would make it,” said Warren. “I am so confident.
“People say it’s too soon. I know who I would have my money on.”
As well as Joshua, Dubois spoke to talkSPORT about what it was like to go up against the likes of Tyson Fury and Alexander Povetkin.
Warren has continuously labelled Dubois as the best young heavyweight at this stage of his career that he has ever been involved with.
Speaking on Fight Night, Warren said: “Daniel’s learning his trade and [his coach] Martin Bowers is doing a fantastic job with him and the boxing side is getting better and better.
“For me he’s the best young heavyweight at this stage of his career that I’ve ever been involved with.
“He’s a consummate professional, he doesn’t even have a mobile phone and all he thinks about is boxing, boxing, boxing. He’s got a dream and he wants to achieve it.
“What I’ve got to do for my man is to move him into a position where he’s getting experience and experience against good opposition and we’re moving him up the rankings.
“So what I want him to be this time certainly or by October time next year, is to be in a No.1 spot where he’s a mandatory challenger for one of these guys [Joshua, Wilder, or Tyson Fury] or whoever is holding these titles.
“I believe he’s got the tools and the ability to get himself into that No.1 spot.”
