Arsenal needs a quality coach, says Kanu
Former Arsenal forward Nwankwo Kanu is confident that the Gunners recent poor performances can be improved if they appoint an experienced coach capable of handling players .
The Gunners sacked Unai Emery last month and are in search of a replacement despite appointing Freddie Ljungberg on an interim basis .
According to multiple British media reports , Mikel Arteta is in advanced talks with the Gunners , with a £ 5 m annual deal on the table , although it is understood that he wants long- term assurances over the nature of the project at the Emirates before signing on .
The former Arsenal and Everton midfielder was very close to landing the job 18 months ago, before the board decided to hire another Spaniard – Unai Emery .
“The recent poor performances of Arsenal FC can improve with experienced management ,” Kanu told journalist during a media parley in Lagos .
“We need a strong hand to bring back the glory days of Arsenal .
“I know every fan is disappointed with the games the club has been playing of recent . This is not the same Arsenal people used to know . But , all the same , we can still turn it around .
“We have an interim coach , Freddie Ljungberg , but things are not really going on well for him . When you have players , they should always tell themselves the truth .
“The players alone cannot be blamed , but the entire management also . But it is clear that Arsenal are not where they are supposed to be , they have to change a lot of things and ensure that they return to the basics,” he said .
Kanu said everyone involved with the club should be blamed for the slide, advising that they should also all endeavour to improve themselves .
